Countryman

In this MINI Countryman Review, we are looking at a small SUV that still feels true to the brand, even though it has grown into something much more practical than the old Countryman. The 2026 MINI Countryman is roomier, more refined, and more premium inside than before, but it has not lost the playful design and personality that attract people to the brand. It may not be the most logical pick in its class, but that’s part of its charm. Now, it combines style with real everyday usefulness, whether you choose the balanced Countryman S, the quicker JCW, or the all-electric SE.

What’s New

The major redesign took place last year, so the 2026 model only gets minor updates. BMW Group says the gas Countryman now offers a new 18-inch black wheel option, and other sources note the addition of a new Oxford Edition and a JCW Style package to the lineup.
So, the 2026 Countryman mainly features small changes to trim and equipment, not major mechanical updates. Its main strengths remain: bold styling, a more upscale interior, and a lineup that lets buyers choose between regular turbo power, higher JCW performance, or an all-electric model.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Circular 9.4-inch OLED display, and MINI Operating System 9, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, and optional upgrades like Harman Kardon audio, wireless charging, and a head-up display.
The screen is a key part of the Countryman’s character, giving the interior a modern, unique feel. Some buyers may not like having so many controls in one display, but the system definitely gives the Countryman a more distinctive cabin than most small crossovers.
The 2026 MINI Countryman offers three distinct options built on the same foundation. The Countryman S ALL4 is the practical choice, offering enough power to feel lively without being too intense. The JCW Countryman ALL4 is the performance model, delivering extra speed and excitement.
The Countryman stands out because it remains more playful than most small SUVs, even as it becomes more practical. The S ALL4 should satisfy most drivers, especially if you want a premium small SUV that stays fun on winding roads or highway ramps.
Looking at the numbers, the Countryman S ALL4 has 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The JCW Countryman ALL4 offers 312 horsepower and 295 lb-ft, while the electric Countryman SE ALL4 delivers 308 horsepower and 364 lb-ft. The S goes from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, the JCW in 5.2 seconds, and the SE in 5.4 seconds.
The EPA rates the 2026 Countryman S ALL4 at 24 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined. The JCW Countryman ALL4 gets slightly lower ratings at 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The electric Countryman SE ALL4 is rated at 99 MPGe in the city, 94 MPGe on the highway, and 96 MPGe combined, with an EPA range of up to 212 miles.
Which version is best depends on your needs. The S ALL4 is the most efficient gas model, while the JCW trades some fuel economy for better performance. The SE is a good choice if its range fits your daily driving. If you want to keep running costs low, the electric version stands out, but the S ALL4 is still a solid option for a premium small SUV with all-wheel drive.
Safety is a strong point for the Countryman. The IIHS reports that the current redesign covers the 2025 and 2026 models, with Good ratings in key crash tests for the 2026 model. Standard safety features include Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Warning, and High Beam Assist.
These features make the Countryman competitive in terms of safety. While it might not be the first small SUV that comes to mind when it comes to safety technology, it keeps up with rivals. Having blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning as standard helps show the Countryman is more than just stylish.
The Countryman is surprisingly practical for a MINI. It offers about 24.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 56.1 cubic feet with the seats folded, according to MINI, while Edmunds lists 25.0 cubic feet for the 2026 model. For towing, the gas Countryman S ALL4 can handle up to 3,500 pounds with the factory trailer hitch, and the electric Countryman SE ALL4 can tow up to 2,645 pounds with its available hitch.
This added practicality makes the current Countryman more appealing than previous models. It keeps the style and charm MINI is known for, but now it is big enough to serve as a true small SUV for five people, luggage, groceries, or light towing. While it is not the most spacious in its class, it no longer feels like you are settling for less.
Pricing varies depending on the version you choose. In the U.S., the Countryman S ALL4 starts at $38,900, the JCW Countryman ALL4 at $46,900, and the Countryman SE ALL4 at $45,200 before destination fees. Kelley Blue Book lists similar prices, with Fair Purchase Pricing for the gas models ranging from about $38,900 to $46,700.
The smart buy is the Countryman S ALL4. It delivers the look, the upgraded cabin, the standard all-wheel drive, and enough performance to feel fun without jumping into the price territory where the value proposition gets shakier. The JCW is attractive if you know you want the fastest gas version, and the SE is the right pick if you are specifically shopping for a premium EV crossover. But for the broadest set of buyers, the S ALL4 is where the lineup makes the most sense.

Pros:

  • Distinctive design helps it stand out in a crowded small-SUV segment.
  • The cabin feels more upscale and interesting than many rivals’.
  • Cargo space is useful enough to make it a legitimate daily driver.
  • Standard safety tech is stronger than some buyers may expect.

Cons:

  • Rear-seat space is decent, but not especially generous for taller adults.

The MINI Countryman has the kind of design and personality that can make buyers pay extra just because it feels special. Check the invoice pricing to get a clearer sense of what a fair deal looks like before you buy.

Is the 2026 MINI Countryman worth buying over other premium small SUVs?

Yes, if you want a small SUV that feels more distinctive than the usual choices. The 2026 MINI Countryman makes its strongest case with its design, cabin character, and a lineup that offers real variety, from the balanced S ALL4 to the quick JCW and the electric SE. It is a less obvious pick if your top priorities are maximum rear-seat room, the lowest price, or class-leading EV range, but it is a very good one if you want something premium, practical enough, and much less anonymous than most competitors.
