Traverse

In this 2026 Chevrolet Traverse review, we will cover everything you need to know about this big SUV.

Because it doesn’t occupy your entire garage, the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse is easier to own without sacrificing space for your family. Its interior is the same size as a Tahoe. Adults may use the third row of seats when needed. The most useful thing about the Traverse is how useful it is, but its engine and road manners are not as good as those of the best mid-size SUVs. The only engine option is a turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 328 horsepower, but it doesn’t accelerate as quickly as its class rivals. The Traverse isn’t fun to drive, but at least the ride is smooth and comfy. If you’re willing to sacrifice a bit of interior space, the Mazda CX-90 and Kia Telluride are two competitors worth considering.

What's New?

After receiving a makeover for the 2024 model year, the Traverse will continue to be produced. This year, we don’t expect the three-row SUV to undergo any significant changes.

Infotainment and Connectivity

All Traverse models come with a large 17.7-inch tablet for entertainment that runs the latest version of Chevrolet’s software, based on Google. A standard 11.0-inch digital gauge panel is also included, providing the driver with numerous options to display the information they want. There is Wi-Fi on board, as well as a wireless charging spot for smartphones.

A 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission, powers the Traverse. Only the front wheels are driven by the Traverse’s engine unless all-wheel drive is chosen. The updated Z71 version enhances off-road capabilities with all-terrain tires, a twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system, adjustable suspension settings, and driving modes tailored to various terrains. During our test drive, we didn’t like how awkward and truck-like the Traverse’s handling was. Although it’s not particularly enjoyable to drive the Traverse, the trip is relaxing and ideal for families. The suspension does a good job of stopping body roll, and the sturdy brake pedal is very comfortable.
The engine response is slow, but the acceleration appears to be fine. We didn’t like the noises the turbo four makes when you press the accelerator all the way down. Our all-wheel-drive Traverse accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, compared with 6.2 seconds for the previous V-6.

The EPA has not yet released the fuel economy numbers for the 2026 Traverse. However, the 2025 model delivered up to 20 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. Once we know how many miles per gallon the new Traverse gets in real life, we’ll put it through our long, 75-mph highway test run.

Chevrolet cars offer numerous features that enhance the driving experience, including automatic high-beam headlights and systems designed to help the driver see bikes and pedestrians. GM’s Super Cruise hands-free drive mode comes standard on the RS and High Country models. On the LT and Z71, you can pay extra to use it, though. Key safety features include:

  • Most automatic emergency braking systems can differentiate between a cyclist and a pedestrian.
  • Adaptive speed control that can help you stay in your lane
  • You can drive without using your hands.

If you opt for the basic Trailering package, the Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds. This package comes with a heavy-duty cooling system, a 220-amp alternator, and a special “Hitch View” feature on the outdoor camera system.

The anticipated price of the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse ranges from $43,000 to $56,000, depending on the trim level and selected features. Although the range has changed, we still believe the LT is the best deal. It comes with a trailer kit, an automatic rear liftgate, wireless phone charging, and captain’s seats in the second row. We recommend adding the Driver Confidence package and GM’s Super Cruise feature for enhanced hands-free driving capabilities.

Pros

  • Spacious three-row interior comparable to larger SUVs like the Tahoe
  • Comfortable ride quality is ideal for families and long trips
  • Strong turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 328 horsepower
  • Available Super Cruise hands-free driving technology
  • Large, modern infotainment system with Google-based software
  • Z71 trim adds useful off-road features and all-wheel-drive capability

Cons

  • Not engaging in driving compared to class rivals
  • Slower acceleration than the previous V6-powered Traverse
  • Fuel economy is below average for the midsize SUV segment
  • Interior layout and usability could be better optimized
  • No hybrid or plug-in hybrid option available
  • Engine noise under hard acceleration is unrefined

If you need a midsize SUV that delivers real space, everyday comfort, and smart technology without the bulk of a full-size SUV, the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse gets the job done. It may not excite on winding roads, but for families who value practicality and room to grow, it’s a solid choice. Before you buy, complete the form to find the invoice price for the exact Traverse you’re considering and see what a fair deal really looks like. A few minutes of research could save you hundreds, or even thousands, at the dealership.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Traverse a good choice for families looking for space, comfort, and modern technology in a midsize SUV?

Yes. The 2026 Chevrolet Traverse is a strong option for families who prioritize interior space, comfort, and technology over driving excitement. It offers a roomy three-row cabin comparable to larger SUVs, a smooth and comfortable ride, and advanced features like Super Cruise and a large Google-based infotainment system. While it is not the most engaging or fuel-efficient midsize SUV, its practicality, towing capability, and family-friendly design make it a solid choice for everyday use and long trips.
